The Importance of Tree Planting Organizations
Human beings need trees to survive. Not just human beings, but animals and the environment. Without trees, it is safe to say that our lives would be unrecognizable. Trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, which is critical to the survival of the human species and animals alike. Trees also help to combat global warming.
So if trees are so important, then it follows that people who protect trees are also important. It is safe to say that tree planting organizations are key to our survival as well. There are many tree-planting organizations globally, but in the Caribbean, the Support Roatan project in Roatan has made great progress in tree conservation initiatives because of their sheer determination.
In 2008 during a time of political instability in Honduras, Support Roatan was first started, but after 6- 12 months, the project was side-lined. It started again in April 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. They aim to raise money for grassroots community-based projects on the island of Roatan.
The conservation of green communities is one of the main objectives of Support Roatan. Their Green Communities project will help to build appreciation and understanding of the significance of sustainable green communities. What is great about this organization is that they are working with local community groups, NGOs, and Non-Profit organizations to plan projects that support real developments within communities. This will allow Greener Communities in Roatan to develop and expand into a mainstay in society.
They have major plans for 2021 with their efforts to work with local organizations on tree planting and recording projects for future considerations and improvements. They will also donate 2000 food-producing fruit trees to local families to promote food security in areas that are most in need. Not only that, but they will also be promoting a youth ambassador program so that young people will be encouraged to get involved with this important endeavour. Perhaps their crowning achievement would be assisting with a major event in the Caribbean on World Environment Day on June 5th, 2021.
We know that trees help stop climate change by extracting carbon dioxide from the air by depositing it in the trees and soil and releasing oxygen into the air. They also contribute many advantages to us and our lives. They give cooling shade, attract birds and wildlife, purify our air, limit soil erosion, purify our water, and add scenic beauty to our environment.
Tree planting is an easy thing that we all can do to lessen carbon dioxide, which is a major greenhouse gas that adds to climate change. Regardless of where you live, you can plant trees and take a proactive, positive step to maintain a healthy planet.
The Caribbean tree planting project is actively working to battle deforestation by engaging in tree planting initiatives that involve the community. They have partnered with the Caribbean Tree Planting project as the Bay Islands’ lead partner. This project has undertaken the challenge of planting 1 million trees in the Caribbean whilst also rallying local communities and partner organizations in climate change action.
