The Support Roatan Green Communities project is excited to announce that we have joined the Caribbean Tree Planting Project as the Bay Islands lead partner. The project aims to plant 1 million trees in the Caribbean while engaging local communities and partner organizations in climate change action.

In 2021 our Green Communities plans include working with local organizations on tree planting and recording projects, donating food-producing fruit trees and gardening kits to local families, promoting a youth ambassador program, and assisting on a major event across the Caribbean on World Environment Day on June 5th, 2021.

The Caribbean Tree Planting Project joins this global response by mobilizing Caribbean philanthropists to collaborate and coordinate efforts to plant trees and engage in other climate actions. The Project also responds to the 2019 mandate given by the UN Secretary-General to Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and France’s President Emmanuel Macron to lead a global political initiative to mobilize climate change financing for developing nations and, in so doing, to mobilize private sector support for climate change adaptation and mitigation. We encourage all Caribbean stakeholders to take part in mass climate action such as tree planting efforts to reduce carbon, revitalize the environment, strengthen coastlines, create sources for food production, foster resilience among vulnerable groups, and more. Objectives:

– Mobilize Caribbean philanthropists to collaborate and coordinate efforts to build awareness about climate change by planting trees and engaging in other climate actions.
– To plant at least one (1) million trees and engage related climate action in at least 10 Caribbean countries;
– Promote Caribbean Youth and Caribbean Diaspora activism around climate change
– Highlight the significance of multi-stakeholder partnerships and collaborative actions, especially among philanthropists
